SDI designers bag 1st place in the Interior Design Licensure Exam (IDLE), two years in a row

The most anticipated examination for aspiring interior designers was held last July 2-4, 2024. The annual Interior Design Licensure Examination (IDLE) in the Philippines, administered by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), ensures professional standards, provides formal recognition, and grants licenses to qualified interior designers.

The IDLE is the sole means of accreditation for Filipino interior design graduates in order to practice interior design in the country legally. The three-day exam tests theoretical knowledge in the following subjects:

  • Interior Construction (10%)

  • Color Theory (5%)

  • Materials of Design (10%)

  • Professional Practice and Ethics (10%)

  • History of Arts and Interior Design (10%).

  • Interior Design practical exam (40%)

The hardest part of the exam was the Interior Design practical exam which covers manual drafting of plans and rendering of perspectives. Examinees are only given nine (9) hours to conceptualize, draft, and render their hand-drawn perspective of the given design problem.

In the Philippines, it is common practice for examinees to enroll in private review centers and pay significant fees to ensure they are properly prepared for the licensure examinations. However, despite several challenges, our very own Managing Director, Ruwayna Alqaseer - del Rosario committed to personally train and prepare our designers while she herself was also an examinee. With the help of our resident designers, SDI was able to solidify an effective review strategy. Equipped with intense dedication and steadfast faith in God, SDI designers now proudly hold the Top 1 slots and a 100% passing rate for two consecutive years.

This year’s licensure exam has seen a steep decline in the number of passers. Only 119 (29.75%) out of 400 examinees made it to the passing rate. Despite this, SDI designers still managed to achieve a 100% passing rate. Maria Ivanka Añonuevo finished as this year’s Top 1 with an average of 85.80%, followed by Ruwayna Alqaseer - del Rosario at Top 4 with an average of 85.05%, Mikaela Jamela Alba at Top 6 with an average of 84.65%, and Aleta Keisha Labao who also successfully passed the examination.

This also marks the second consecutive year that SDI produced Interior Design topnotchers. In 2023, SDI’s Jena de Guzman finished at 1st place, while Mark Laurenz Garcia ranked 10th out of 443 takers.

This back-to-back victory is a testament to Sunny’s core commitment of investing in its people, a key element in our pursuit of excellence!

In the words of our Director,

At SDI, we do not hire top notchers, we make them
